Mission: Serving the capital district of New York State since January 1963, The Albany Church of Christ is committed to promoting Jesus Christ within our homes, in our community and throughout the world.
Important Beliefs:
Becoming a Follow of Jesus: We understand the New Testament to teach that persons become Christ’s followers through a process that includes personal faith in Jesus (Rom. 5:1-2), turning away from sin (what the Bible calls “repentance”—Acts 17:30-31), and baptism (immersion in water) for forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38; Rom. 6:1-4). We understand that when one becomes a follower of Christ, one receives the gift of God’s Spirit (Acts 2:38; 5:32), and one enters Christ’s body, the church (1 Cor. 12:13).
Living as a Follower of Jesus: We believe that God works in our lives through His Spirit to transform us into the Christ’s likeness (2 Cor. 3:18) and that we are called to put out of our lives things like sexual immorality, hatred, jealousy, selfishness, and rage, and to replace them with what the Bible calls the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Gal. 5:19-26). We believe that as a community—and as individuals—we are called to serve others (Gal. 6:10).
What does our worship service consist of? When we meet each Sunday, our worship—like that we read about in the New Testament—is centered around the celebration of the Lord’s Supper, and includes singing, prayer, giving, and the study and proclamation of God’s Word.
